Jeroen is the Product Lead for Account Security at Google Workspace, where he leads the team responsible for protecting millions of customers from account takeover. Driven by the severe impact hijacking can have on people and businesses, Jeroen’s work is guided by the motto, “saving one is worth it.”
Saving one is worth it
Jeroen’s team develops both visible and invisible protections to protect commercial Google accounts. This includes user-facing security like 2-Step Verification (2SV) and phishing-resistant passkeys, alongside advanced session protections such as Device Bound Session Credentials (DBSC). Behind the scenes, invisible defenses like Google’s powerful Identity Risk engine provide near real-time analysis to block hijacking attempts before they can cause harm.
Jeroen is also on a multi-year journey researching how people define success. What began as a personal curiosity has evolved into a comprehensive project for which he has interviewed nearly 250 individuals from diverse backgrounds. He regularly shares his findings at conferences, exploring how people pursue a meaningful life and career.
He joined Google in 2016, first working in the Identity team before being appointed to his current global lead role in 2021. Prior to Google, Jeroen founded a B2B startup and spent several years in corporate strategy. He holds an MBA from IESE Business School in Spain and an MSc in Business Information Systems from the University of Amsterdam (UvA).
